What has made Halo special to me was its emotional core. The desire to explore. The bonds of friendship. This documentary goes deep on those concepts and how gaming has the principles and pipeline of filmmaking and brought them into the fray.
Personally, I wanted to get back to absorbing the passion that goes into making a project. Often these corporate video documentaries are made with a very specific purpose, be it showing a new feature or explaining a exciting mechanic. Basically they are made to build hype in a format that was used for a generation to feel investigative. Somewhere along the way people stopped caring about the 'integrity' of the documentary format and they became like mad limbs.
Halo doesn't have to sell it's importance to a generation. It's done that. At this time in history it was 343's and Microsoft's job to show that it had the ability to take over the franchise. It was important to me that it felt genuine and conveyed how much though goes into story. That became the task. Be memorable. Be emotional. Be informative. Bring all of that together and make it digestible. If we are going to spend our lives telling these stories we have to be passionate about it.
